This week we continued to learn all about Chanukah. We heard the story of Chanukah and acted parts of it out. We learned about how the Greeks didn"t let the Jews learn Torah and do Mitzvos but we went to hide in caves and when the Greeks came to find the Jews they hid what they were learning and pulled out tops to play with. That is why we play with dreidels on Chanukah. We made a cave out of the tables and some blankets and hid underneath with dreidels and Torahs. We also made dreidel stained glass pictures for our windows. We felt the sticky contact paper and stuck coloured tissue paper squares onto the sticky paper. The we climbed up the stairs near the window and helped put it on the window. Some of our dreidels look like they are spinning all over. We spun dreidels in our salad spinner creating a beautiful effect on the paper. We worked our finger muscles to squeeze out drops of paint onto the dreidel. Then we spun the spinner and when we opened it we saw a beautiful design. We had fun playing in our sensory table finding candles and dreidels in rice. We also learned about the miracle of finding the oil and how a little bit of oil burned for 8 days. That is why we light the Menorah. We painted with Chanukah candles using them as paintbrushes and sponge painted using sponges cut into candles. We built a Menorah out of blocks and drove our cars on a tape Menorah on the floor.
In our Alef Bais unit we met the letter Vov. We decorated a cardboard Vov for our Alef Bais book and watched the letter vov pop out of its frame.
Dreidel Songs we've been singing:
I have a little Dreidel,
I made it out of clay,
And when its dry and ready
Oh dreidel I shall play
Turn the Dreidel
See it spin
Nun and gimmel
Hey & shin
Nes Gadol Haya Shom
A great miracle happened there.
